Since June 2024, Weston has collected residential bulk trash four times a year, in January, April, July and October. Republic Services does the collection, and each section of the city has one assigned day in each of those months. Items have to be out by 7am, with three feet of clearance around your carts. If you need something gone outside those dates, Republic offers a special pickup for an extra charge. For a household with a normal amount of stuff, that schedule is fine. The trouble is that junk does not arrive on a quarterly schedule. A new mattress shows up in February, a remodel finishes in May, a parent moves in in August.
Some items are excluded from Weston bulk entirely: televisions and other electronics, contractor-generated material, and household hazardous waste. Refrigerators and air conditioners are collected only after a certified dealer has removed the Freon. For the free option on electronics and hazardous waste, Broward County runs a drop-off center at 5490 Reese Road in Davie. It is open Saturdays from 9am to 3pm and asks for ID and a utility bill, but you load and drive it there yourself. We take electronics, appliances and remodel debris as a normal part of a job. True hazardous waste like paint thinners and pool chemicals still belongs at the county site.
