The most common frustration people have with junk removal companies — and it is a fair one — is that nobody will give you a number.
You call, you describe the job, and you get "we'd have to see it." Which sounds like the setup for being quoted whatever the crew thinks you will pay once your garage is already half empty.
So let us actually explain the pricing, including why the on-site part exists and how to make sure it never works against you.
The unit is space in the truck
We price by volume. The question is: how much room does your load take up in the truck?
Not by the hour. Not by weight, for household material. Not per item.
The reason we avoid hourly is that it punishes you for things you do not control. If your sofa has to come down a narrow staircase, that takes us longer — but it is not more junk, and charging you more for living on the second floor has always seemed backwards to us. Volume pricing means a difficult job and an easy job of the same size cost the same.
What the range actually looks like
Our jobs run from $99 to about $599 per truckload. Here is what sits at each point.
Minimum load — around $99
A single item or a very small pile. One sofa. A mattress and box spring. A refrigerator. A dozen boxes from a garage. A grill.
Single-item pickups are genuinely common for us and we are happy to do them. This is what the minimum load is for.
Quarter truck — roughly $150–$250
A room's worth. A bedroom set. A cleared-out home office. A small storage unit. A few appliances together.
Half truck — roughly $250–$400
A full garage clearout. A patio and yard cleanup. The debris from a bathroom renovation. A one-bedroom apartment's furniture.
Full truck — roughly $400–$599
A whole-property cleanout. An estate. A large rental turnover. A full office fit-out. Substantial renovation debris.
Jobs bigger than one truck are quoted as a whole job at the walkthrough, not per trip as a surprise afterwards.
The four things that move the number
Volume. The main driver, by a wide margin.
Weight, for dense material. Concrete, tile, brick, roofing and soil are priced differently from household goods because a small volume can hit a truck's weight limit. Tell us on the phone if the job is heavy material and we will bring the right truck.
Special handling. Refrigerators, freezers and AC units have to go to a licensed refrigerant processor. That is a real cost and it applies whoever you hire.
Teardown. Sheds, playsets, hot tubs and above-ground pools need dismantling before hauling. That is labour on top of volume and it is quoted up front.
What does not move the number
- Stairs. No stairs fee. Ever.
- Distance within our service area. No travel surcharge for Fort Lauderdale or Deerfield Beach versus Coral Springs.
- Time of day, or Sunday. Same price.
- How far into the property it is. Back yard, attic, third floor — same job.
Why the on-site quote exists
Here is the honest answer: because a phone estimate is a guess, and guesses are exactly how people end up with a bill bigger than they agreed to.
Almost nobody accurately estimates their own load. Not out of dishonesty — you have simply stopped seeing that corner of the garage. "Just a few things" regularly turns out to be a half truck.
A company willing to commit to a firm price sight-unseen is doing one of two things: quoting high enough to cover the worst case, or quoting low and revising it when the truck is half full and you are not in a position to argue.
We do it the other way round. Ballpark on the phone, firm written number on site before anything is loaded.
How to make sure it never works against you
Three things, and they cost you nothing:
- Get the price before anything moves. Any legitimate company gives you a number before loading. If a crew starts working before quoting, stop them and ask.
- Confirm it is the total. Disposal, labour, fuel, the lot. Ours is.
- Know you can say no. If the number is not what you expected, we leave. No call-out fee, no charge for the walkthrough, nothing.
That last one is the real protection. Our quote is an offer, not a commitment you have already made.
Making your quote as tight as possible
Send photos. Genuinely — two or three phone pictures of the pile turns our phone ballpark from a wide range into something close to the final number. Walk the room and film it if that is easier.
And check the garage before you describe the job. That is where the surprise always is.
