We get asked this constantly, usually by someone who has already priced a dumpster and is trying to work out whether we are cheaper. Sometimes we are. Sometimes we are not, and we would rather say so than talk somebody into the wrong option.
Here is the actual comparison.
The fundamental difference
A dumpster is a container rental. You are paying for a box to sit on your property for a period, and for it to be taken away full. You do all the loading.
Junk removal is a labour service. We arrive, we load, we leave with it. You do none of the loading.
Almost every other difference follows from that one.
Where a dumpster genuinely wins
Multi-week projects with continuous output
A full home renovation producing debris daily for three weeks is a dumpster job. You need somewhere to put material as it is generated, and calling a crew out every second day is both expensive and disruptive.
Work you are doing yourself, at your own pace
Clearing a garage over four weekends, one shelf at a time, is a dumpster job. The container waits for you. We would need to come back four times.
Very heavy single-material loads
Concrete, brick, tile, roofing tear-off. These are dense enough that weight becomes the constraint rather than volume, and a dedicated heavy-debris roll-off is usually the better economic answer.
Active job sites with several trades
If four different crews are producing debris on their own schedules, they need a container. Coordinating a hauler around four subcontractors is not realistic.
Where junk removal wins
Anything that has to be carried
This is the decisive one. A dumpster sits on your driveway. Everything between where the item currently is and that driveway is your labour — down stairs, out of the attic, through the side gate.
If the job is a second-floor bedroom set, a dumpster has not solved your problem. It has just given you somewhere to put things you still have to carry.
One-visit clearouts
Garage cleanout, estate, rental turnover, storage unit. Finished in a single visit, nothing left on the property, no container to look at.
Tight timelines
Dumpsters need scheduling for delivery and collection. We can often be there the same afternoon. If there is a closing on Thursday, that matters.
Anywhere a container is a problem
Which in Coral Springs and the surrounding cities is a lot of places. Many HOA communities restrict roll-offs, require approval, or limit how long one can sit. Some driveways cannot take the weight — a loaded roll-off on paver bricks or an older concrete drive can crack it, and that repair is not cheap. Narrow streets and gated entries are their own problem.
When you do not know how much there is
Order a dumpster too small and you pay for a second. Too large and you paid for air. We price the load we actually take.
The costs people leave out
On the dumpster side: permit fees if it goes on a street, overage charges if you exceed the weight allowance, extra days if the project runs long, potential driveway damage, and every hour of your own labour.
On our side: genuinely not much — the price we quote on site is the price, and it includes the labour, the disposal and the sorting. But we are a per-visit service, so a project generating debris over weeks will cost more with us than with a container.
Rough numbers for Broward County
A roll-off typically runs a few hundred dollars for a small container up to the high hundreds for a large one, over a set rental period and weight allowance, plus permits where required.
Our pricing runs $99 for a minimum load to around $599 for a full truck, labour and disposal included.
For a single-visit household clearout those numbers land close enough together that the deciding factor is almost never price — it is whether you want to do the lifting.
The three-question version
If you want to skip all of the above:
- Is everything already at the driveway, or will it be? If yes, a dumpster is viable. If no, you want a crew.
- Is this one push or several weeks? One push, us. Several weeks, container.
- Can a container legally and physically sit on your property? HOA rules, driveway surface, street access. If no, that decides it.
We will tell you which one you need
If you call (954) 536-8189 and describe the project, and it is clearly a dumpster job, we will say so. We would rather be the company that gave you a straight answer than the one that took a booking it should not have.
Plenty of our repeat customers first called us about a job we told them to handle another way.
